The Climate Change Commission (CCC) emphasized the importance of policy learning, transparency, and evidence-based decision-making in navigating the rapidly changing global environment during the recent Inclusive Forum on Carbon Mitigation Approaches (IFCMA).
Organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) alongside developing country partners, the event underscored international capacity-building cooperation as a key driver for effective global climate action.
Discussions during the forum centered on updates to the Climate Policy Database and the modeling of international policy spillovers. These developments highlight how climate policies increasingly intersect with trade, investment, and industrial systems, creating ripple effects that extend far beyond national boundaries.
For developing nations like the Philippines, the CCC noted that the Climate Policy Database serves as a vital resource for navigating the evolving landscape of climate action.
CCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert E.A. Borje highlighted the strategic value of sustained engagement in global platforms like the IFCMA.
“The IFCMA provides an important platform for the Philippines to strengthen its climate policy capacity," Borje said. "It enables us to learn from global practices, benchmark our approaches, and translate these insights into policies that are responsive to our national context and development priorities.”
The CCC further stressed the importance of understanding climate policy spillovers, particularly their implications for trade, investment, technology access, and employment in developing economies. It emphasized that these insights are essential to ensuring that climate action remains fair, inclusive, and closely aligned with sustainable development goals.
The forum brought together policy experts and international representatives, providing a collaborative space for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the advancement of effective climate mitigation policies.
