OWNER Paul Lacson uses his Rococo White GAC Aion UT for daily drives after choosing the EV hatchback for its comfort, range and lower running cost.
GAC International Philippines Inc. (GAC) is pushing the Aion UT into the local electric vehicle market after the hatchback gained stronger sales overseas and reached Philippine showrooms in May.
The Aion UT posted global sales of 3,331 units in May 2026. That was up 60 percent from the previous month. GAC described it as the fastest-growing Chinese-brand electric hatchback in its segment, with sales momentum in markets such as Thailand, Australia, Latin America and Europe.
The model has also picked up recognition in other countries. It received The Most Valuable EV Award at the Bangkok International Motor Show, Best Compact Electric Vehicle in Mexico and Best Subcompact Hatchback 5 Dr. EV at Thailand’s Car of the Year 2026.
The car was developed with input from GAC’s Milan Design Center. It carries a fastback shape and a short hatchback body, but its 2,750 mm wheelbase gives it cabin space closer to a larger car.
GAC also uses its Magazine Battery 2.0 system in the model, which the brand links to its safety record.
“We are thrilled to bring another global hit from GAC's line of innovations to the Philippines through the AION UT,” Steven Wang, senior vice president of GAC International, said.
“This milestone allows us to further serve and diversify our brand offerings in the local mobility scene. We are confident that the AION UT will bolster dynamic, safe, and sustainable driving for Filipinos this 2026.”
Local buyers have started to share their early experience with the car. Paul Lacson, a Silay City government employee and GAC owner, said his previous experience with the Emzoom helped him choose the Aion UT.
“I also have a two-year old GAC Emzoom, and the quality of the brand made me confident in choosing the AION UT. Since the fuel crisis, I've been using the AION UT for everyday commutes,” Lacson said.
“The drive comfort is very good, and the power for its size is very strong, especially on the highway. I took it on an out-of-town trip and for a 100-kilometer stretch, I only used 20 percent of the battery. It's been a game-changer for my family.”
Lacson said he compared the Aion UT with other EV and hybrid models before buying. He found the GAC hatchback stronger in features, space and running cost.
