Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that he had signed a document pertaining to an order to dismiss former Acting Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Mao Aplasca from his service.
Remulla noted that the order would remove Aplasca from both his positions as the Acting Senate Sergeant-At-Arms and as the Sergeant-At-Arms of the Commission on Appointments.
“On Monday, I signed the dismissal of Mao Aplasca from the service,” he said during his program on DZRH.
To recall, the Ombudsman had previously ordered for the preventive suspension of the former police officer in relation to the shooting incident that took place at the upper house on 13 May, which led to the subsequent escape of the internationally wanted Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
Remulla explained at the time that their decision was based on information that it was Aplasca that opened fire against officials from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) who were situated at the nearby Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) building.
The official suspension was meant for a period of six months without pay, a period that began when the order was first issued on 15 May.
Aplasca was subsequently replaced by retired Police Major General Alfredo Sotto Corpuz as part of the ouster last 3 June that appointed Senator Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian as the new Senate President.
In an effort to prevent disinformation and provide clarity to its decision on the matter, Remulla said that he would be furnishing a copy of their resolution in the coming week.
“We will reveal the decision, so the people can see. Because it is difficult to explain, so the people can read the decision,” he said.
Aplasca along with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and Senator Robin Padilla figured in a case at the Ombudsman concerning an obstruction of justice complaint related to the aforementioned incident that took place in the Senate.
All three were ordered to submit a counter-affidavit to the same last 24 June.
