Ex-BFP chief slapped graft, bribery raps
Former Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) chief Jesus Fernandez has been charged with graft and bribery over the alleged anomalous procurement of 132 ambulances costing P485 million from 2024 to 2025.
The Office of the Ombudsman said Thursday that the cases stemmed from a complaint by the Department of the Interior and Local Government based on an internal fact-finding investigation at the BFP.
Also charged was Rosaverna Sangga, a representative of firms that formed a joint venture and secured government contracts. Investigators said Sangga delivered P14.572 million to Fernandez while he chaired the BFP Bids and Awards Committee.
The Ombudsman said Sangga delivered P10.752 million on 21 November 2024 and P4 million on 25 September 2025.
Fernandez also faces administrative charges for conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service and grave misconduct, offenses punishable by dismissal and perpetual disqualification from government service.
