Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Friday commended police officers for ensuring the peaceful conclusion of the three-day Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally, describing the operation as an example of disciplined and impartial policing.
Nartatez said the successful security operations reflected the professionalism and restraint of police personnel deployed throughout the gatherings in Quezon City and Manila.
The operation was carried out in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, to maintain peace and public order while protecting the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
"The peaceful conclusion of the three-day rally reflects the professionalism, discipline, and restraint demonstrated by our police personnel," Nartatez said."I commend every officer who faithfully performed their duty while respecting the constitutional right to peaceful assembly. Their commitment to maintaining peace, ensuring public safety, and coordinating closely with local authorities and event organizers made this operation a success," he added.
The INC concluded its three-day protest on Thursday, 2 July, with authorities estimating around 4,400 participants on the final day.
The religious group initially assembled at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City before moving to Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila after the Quezon City government revoked its rally permit.
The demonstration was held in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who is facing possible plunder charges over the alleged non-disclosure of campaign contributions.
INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala thanked the police for ensuring the safety of participants throughout the event.
In response, Nartatez reiterated the PNP's commitment to serving all Filipinos fairly and without bias.
"We appreciate the acknowledgment from the organizers. The Philippine National Police remains committed to serving all Filipinos with fairness, professionalism, and impartiality," he said."Our duty is to protect the public, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that everyone can peacefully exercise their constitutional rights regardless of their affiliation or beliefs," he added.
