Three-division champion Johnriel Casimero paid homage to his Japanese promoter Koki Kameda on Friday, citing his trust and faith in him “gave me the motivation to climb back to the top.”
A month after his scintillating fourth-round knockout of Mexican Luis “Pantera” Nery in Japan, Casimero wrote on his social media post: This No. 4 WBO (World Boxing Organization) world ranking is not just my achievement — it’s yours, too.”
“When I was at my lowest, you were the one who believed in me. You gave me an opportunity when many people had already counted me out,” said the 37-year-old Casimero, who knocked down Nery six times in their brawl held last 3 June at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname.
“I truly appreciate everything you have done for me. This ranking is only the beginning. I will continue working hard, and I promise to give my best in every fight. My goal is to become a world champion again and prove that your belief in me was never misplaced.”
A few days ago, the Puerto Rico-based WBO released its latest ratings and it listed Casimero at the No. 4 spot in the super-bantamweight division.
“The journey isn’t over yet, we’re just getting started.”
Tops on Casimero’s hit list is Japanese pound-for-pound king Naoya “Monster” Inoue, who holds all the belts at 122 pounds, including The Ring magazine strap.
There is no set date for Inoue’s next fight but being eyed to challenge him is American Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, who recently won a big fight at bantamweight.
Casimero used to be with MP Promotions and it was with that Las Vegas-based outfit where he posted many of his biggest wins.
After a falling out with MP Promotions, Casimero hooked up with Treasure Promotions, another Japanese group that gave him several fights.
Two years ago, Kameda’s 3150 Promotions assumed the role of Casimero’s promoter.
