Some brands become successful businesses. Others become part of a nation's story.
For 85 years, Philippine Airlines has been woven into the lives of Filipinos, carrying not just passengers but also precious moments that define who we are. It has flown newlyweds on their first adventure together, overseas workers returning home after years of sacrifice, students chasing opportunities abroad, and families reuniting after long periods apart. In many ways, Philippine Airlines has spent nearly nine decades transporting the emotions, dreams, and memories of a people whose lives are often shaped by journeys.
As the country's flag carrier celebrates its 85th anniversary and prepares to join the oneworld Alliance, the milestone feels especially meaningful for a homegrown brand that has grown alongside the nation itself.
Philippine Airlines was born in a young and evolving Philippines and has remained a steadfast companion through generations of change. While aircraft have become more advanced and the aviation industry more competitive, PAL has preserved something that cannot be measured by technology or numbers. It has remained unmistakably Filipino.
The airline's greatest strength has always been its ability to make people feel at home, even thousands of feet above the ground.
There is a certain warmth that passengers often associate with Philippine Airlines. It is found in the smiles that welcome travelers on board, in the attentiveness shown to elderly passengers and children, and in the genuine care extended to every guest. These gestures may appear simple, but together they represent a kind of hospitality that Filipinos are known for around the world.

Philippine Airlines' all-new Airbus A350-1000, the first in Southeast Asia, is powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines and can cruise at speeds of up to 513 knots or 590 mph.
For millions of overseas Filipinos, stepping onto a PAL flight often marks the beginning of an emotional journey home. The familiar language, the comforting service, and the sense of being welcomed like family can ease the distance between countries and loved ones. Long before the aircraft reaches Philippine soil, there is already a feeling that home is near.
That uniquely Filipino spirit has allowed the airline to become more than a transportation provider. It has become an ambassador of the country itself.
This year marks another defining chapter as PAL becomes the 16th member of the oneworld Alliance and only the second full member airline based in Southeast Asia. The partnership connects the airline to a global network of nearly 1,000 destinations across more than 170 countries and territories, creating more opportunities for seamless travel and strengthening the Philippines' presence in international aviation.

Philippine Airlines receives its first-ever ‘BB’ rating from Fitch Ratings, recognizing the flag carrier’s financial strength and steady growth as it expands its global presence.
For travelers, it means expanded access, smoother journeys, and enhanced services. For Philippine Airlines, it is recognition that a company built on Filipino values can stand proudly among some of the world's most respected carriers.
The milestone comes alongside another vote of confidence. Fitch Ratings recently assigned Philippine Airlines its first-ever 'BB' Long-Term Issuer Default Rating with a Stable Outlook, citing the airline's diversified network, prudent financial management, operational discipline, and sound growth strategy.
Yet even as it earns international recognition and expands its global reach, PAL's identity remains rooted in the values that have defined it since the beginning.

Its story is ultimately about people. It is about the tears shed at arrival gates, the hugs exchanged after years of separation, and the excitement of discovering new places while carrying one's culture and identity along the journey. Through all these moments, Philippine Airlines has quietly become part of countless personal stories.
At 85, Philippine Airlines stands not only as one of the country's most enduring companies but also as a symbol of Filipino resilience, warmth, and hospitality. It proves that a homegrown brand can compete on the world stage without losing the qualities that made people fall in love with it in the first place.
As it prepares for its next chapter, PAL continues to carry something far more meaningful than luggage and boarding passes. It carries the heart of the Filipino, ensuring that wherever its passengers may go, they are always greeted with the warmth and care that make every journey feel a little closer to home.
