In the wake of the recent earthquake in Mindanao, our thoughts remain with the families and communities affected. Events like these remind us that resilience is not an abstract engineering concept; it directly impacts lives, livelihoods, and recovery.

For a country located along the Pacific Ring of Fire and regularly exposed to typhoons, heavy rainfall, and extreme heat, the question is not whether these challenges will occur, but whether the homes and buildings we construct are designed to withstand them.

At Next Century Building Systems (NCBS), we believe every Filipino family deserves a home built specifically for the environment in which we live.

Built for Philippine conditions

Many residential structures throughout the country continue to rely on conventional concrete hollow block (CHB) wall systems. While widely used, improperly reinforced masonry walls can be vulnerable to cracking and damage when subjected to significant lateral forces generated by earthquakes and strong winds.

As building standards continue to evolve, there is growing recognition of the need for construction systems that do more than simply carry vertical loads. Today’s buildings must also be designed to withstand the environmental realities of the Philippines.

This is where NXT Panel offers a different approach.

A modern structural building system

Manufactured by NCBS in Batangas, NXT Panel is based on an established Italian Structural Concrete Insulated Panel (SCIP) technology that has been used internationally for decades.

Each panel consists of an expanded polystyrene (EPS) core integrated with galvanized steel wire mesh and finished with structural shotcrete on both sides. Once assembled, the system forms a monolithic wall structure that acts as a single composite element.

Unlike conventional masonry walls that rely on individual blocks and mortar joints, the NXT Panel system distributes loads across the entire wall surface. This integrated behavior helps improve structural performance under lateral loading conditions such as earthquakes and strong winds.

“The engineering principle is straightforward,” explains engineer Joshua Orias, head of Engineering and Design Services at NCBS. “Structures perform best when forces can be distributed efficiently throughout the system rather than concentrated at isolated points. That’s one of the key advantages of a monolithic building envelope.”

Performance beyond structural strength

Beyond structural resilience, NXT Panel also provides thermal insulation, helping reduce heat transfer into buildings and improving occupant comfort. The system can also accelerate construction timelines by reducing labor requirements and simplifying installation compared to many conventional wall systems.

These advantages make the technology increasingly attractive for residential, commercial, educational, healthcare, and hospitality projects throughout the country.

Real-world confidence

Several NCBS projects located in areas affected by recent seismic activity reported no visible structural damage during initial post-event inspections. While every project and site condition is unique, these observations reinforce the importance of designing buildings with resilience as a core consideration from the outset.

For NCBS, resilience is not about reacting to the latest disaster. It is about helping communities prepare for the next one.

“We live and build in one of the most dynamic environments on earth,” says NCBS President Jay Ong. “That reality should shape how we design our homes, schools, hospital and communities. Every Filipino family deserves a building system engineered for the conditions we face every day. That’s the mission behind NXT Panel.”

Recognized and available nationwide

NXT Panel is recognized and accredited by major government and housing institutions and is used in residential, commercial, and institutional projects throughout the Philippines.
