PALO, Leyte — A former municipal vice mayor and his son who were kidnapped from their warehouse over the weekend have been found dead in a roadside ravine in Southern Leyte, officials said Tuesday.
Abuyog Mayor Lemuel Gin Traya confirmed the deaths of former Vice Mayor James Bohol and his son, Carlou James “Jimbo” Bohol, following a police notification.
“The local government unit of Abuyog unequivocally condemns this heinous act of violence,” Traya said in a statement. “Such profound lawlessness has no place in our society.”
Passersby discovered the two bodies Tuesday morning in a 25-foot deep ravine along a highway in Barangay Imelda, Silago, Southern Leyte, about a kilometer from the town center.
Forensic investigators were dispatched to the scene to process the bodies.
The victims were forcibly taken around 1 p.m. Saturday by three unidentified men from their office inside a warehouse in Barangay Sta. Cruz in the neighboring town of Mayorga, Leyte.
The suspects initially used a Mitsubishi Mirage sedan during the abduction, according to the victims’ family.
Investigators later tracked the suspects to the Sta. Clara Port in Allen, Northern Samar, where they boarded a ferry bound for Matnog, Sorsogon, early Sunday while driving a gray Toyota Hilux.
Police have not released a motive for the killings, and the suspects remain at large.
