Lagen Island to reopen in 2026 after luxury eco-transformation

Lagen Island in Palawan will reopen in January 2026 following a major transformation that positions the resort as a luxury eco-retreat centered on Filipino craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and sustainability.
Ayala Land Hospitality said the reimagined Lagen will feature 42 accommodations composed of Forest Rooms and Water Villas set amid the forests, limestone cliffs, and waters of Bacuit Bay.
The redesign integrates contemporary architecture with indigenous Filipino design, incorporating traditional weaving patterns, handcrafted woodwork, and locally made ceramics throughout the property.
The project was developed in collaboration with WATG, Wimberly Interiors Studio, Henning Larsen, and Ayala Land Hospitality's Creative Team, with contributions from artisans across the country.
Among those featured are Artisano Kabalan of Olongapo, Cavite-based wood carvers from Creaete Industrial Corp., and master weavers including Wilson Limon, Jenny Mann, T'boli weavers, and the Marabatuan Indigenous People Weavers Association.
The upgraded resort will also include a dive center, a Marine and Biodiversity Conservation Center, and a two-level wellness facility with a spa garden, yoga studio, healing pool, and private treatment rooms.
"The new era of Lagen is designed to be rooted in authenticity," said Paloma Urquijo Zobel de Ayala, creative director of Ayala Land Hospitality.
"For over two decades, Ayala Land Hospitality has championed conservation and responsible development in Palawan. With Lagen's transformation, the brand redefines Filipino hospitality by bringing together heritage, artistry, and nature in one destination," the company said.
Reservations for the redesigned island resort are now open ahead of its January 2026 reopening.
