Three Filipino archbishops received the pallium from Pope Leo XIV during a Mass at St. Peter's Basilica on Monday, 29 June 2026, marking their authority as metropolitan archbishops and their communion with the pontiff.
Pope Leo blessed and imposed the white woolen vestment on newly appointed metropolitan archbishops from around the world during the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
The Filipino recipients were Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy, Cotabato Archbishop Charlie Inzon, and Nueva Segovia Archbishop David William Antonio.
Uy, 59, was appointed archbishop of Cebu on 16 July 2025, and was installed on 30 September 2025. Inzon, 60, was appointed archbishop of Cotabato on 8 September 2025, and was installed on 8 December 2026. Antonio, 62, was appointed archbishop of Nueva Segovia on 4 November 2025, and was installed on 14 January 2026.
Ahead of the ceremony, Uy asked the faithful to pray "for me and for my fellow archbishops, that the Lord may grant us safe travel and help us to be faithful shepherds of His people."
Made of white wool, the pallium is worn over the shoulders by metropolitan archbishops during liturgical celebrations within their ecclesiastical provinces.
It symbolizes their pastoral ministry, communion with the pope, and responsibility for the faithful entrusted to their care.
