Rockport builds network for retail power choice

Rockport Power is expanding its partnerships with distribution utilities and electric cooperatives to keep up with the growing competition in the country's retail electricity market.
The retail electricity supplier said Sunday that it signed partnerships with Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), Batangas I Electric Cooperative Inc., Nueva Ecija II Electric Cooperative Inc. – Area 2, and Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative to boost its footprint in Mindanao.
The tie-ups are expected to widen access to government-backed retail electricity programs, including the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), and Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
"We see our role not just as a supplier, but as a partner in helping Filipinos find real savings," Rockport Power President Marvee Espejo said. "By working with local utilities, we are helping customers unlock more competitive and optimized energy solutions."
Espejo said partnerships with local distribution utilities are essential to building a more competitive and responsive retail electricity market.
RCOA allows qualified large electricity users to choose their own supplier instead of buying power solely from their local utility.
GEOP enables eligible customers to source electricity entirely from renewable energy, while RAP allows smaller consumers to combine their electricity demand to negotiate more competitive rates.
Rockport said its wider network will also help more qualified customers learn about alternatives to the traditional electricity supply model and tap programs designed to improve efficiency and reduce electricity costs.
"Our goal is to make these programs accessible and practical options for anyone seeking to cut their energy costs," Espejo said.
