A profession that used to be untouchable in the public mind, medicine, is now finding itself dragged onto the political battlefield like everyone else.

Two doctors, different specialties have suffered the same fate as both were caught in the crosshairs of professional discipline after speaking out loudly or, depending on who you ask, too loudly.

First, the lady doctor better known these days for her old government spokesperson title than for her stethoscope. She’s been out of that post for a while, but the cases from that era are catching up with her.

A regulatory body has handed her a six-month suspension after finding her in violation of the profession’s code of ethics, stemming from public statements she made back in 2022 that allegedly linked rank-and-file health workers and a community physician to underground organizations.

Four years it took for the case to reach a final ruling. The lesson, said insiders watching closely: ethics doesn’t clock out when you step away from the clinic.

You’re a doctor in the eyes of the law whether you’re holding a scalpel or a microphone — and the obligations follow you either way.

But she’s not the only one feeling the heat. Another outspoken doctor, this one better known for public health commentary and sharp criticism of government agencies, is reportedly facing similar administrative scrutiny of his own.

Coincidence, or a pattern? That’s the question circulating in healthcare circles: why the sudden uptick in complaints against doctors who’ve been politically vocal — particularly critics of the previous administration?

Some say the regulator is simply doing its job and that a code of ethics is a code of ethics, no exemptions for political leanings, left or right.

Others find the timing curious: why now, why both at once, and why does the hammer seem to fall heaviest on critics of one particular camp?

Let’s see who’s next on the list. If this is a pattern, the story isn’t over.
