More than 4,000 residents gathered at the Villar Children's Farm in Las Piñas on Saturday, 20 June, as the Villar Foundation held its annual "Fun Run for Tatay," promoting healthy living, active fatherhood and stronger family relationships in celebration of Father's Day.
The event brought together participants from all 20 barangays of Las Piñas City for a morning of physical activities and family-oriented competitions, highlighting the role of fathers in fostering healthy lifestyles and quality time with their children.
Former Senator Cynthia Villar said the event was organized to recognize fathers for their sacrifices while encouraging families to embrace fitness and spend meaningful time together.
She added that the Villar Children's Farm was chosen as the venue because it was designed as a family-friendly space where children can learn about nature and agriculture while parents enjoy outdoor activities with their families. Villar also said the foundation plans to organize similar activities throughout the year to further promote wellness and family engagement.
Participants echoed the event's health advocacy. In an exclusive interview with DAILY TRIBUNE, Diomarco, who joined the fun run with his son Marc, said the activity reinforced the importance of prioritizing health as a family.
"Primarily, we want to invest in our health. Having a good heart is having a happy life," he said, adding that completing the run alongside his son made the Father's Day celebration more meaningful.
His family said they planned to mark Father's Day with a simple celebration after the event.
The program also featured a barangay dance competition, a father-and-child look-alike contest and recognition for top-performing participants. Jasper Odeja of Barangay Pamplona Tres won the fun run, while Barangay CAA emerged as grand champion in the group dance competition.
Barangay Talon Uno received the award for the largest delegation, while Barangay Zapote won the father-and-child look-alike contest.
Senator Camille Villar also addressed participants, sharing how her father, former Senator Manny Villar, overcame poverty through hard work and perseverance. She encouraged families to uphold the values of diligence and resilience, saying these principles continue to guide their family's public service.
The Villar Foundation said the annual Father's Day event aims to encourage healthier lifestyles while strengthening the role of fathers in building close-knit families and communities.
