TACLOBAN CITY — A police officer breastfed an abandoned baby after the infant was found at a playground inside the Tacloban City Convention Center on 27 February 2026.
According to the Tacloban Tourist Police Unit, four children playing in the area discovered the baby and immediately alerted officers on duty.
Responding personnel secured and covered the infant while members of the Women and Children Protection Desk of Tacloban City Police Station 1 arrived to assist.
Police Corporal Gemarie Malquesto, a WCPD police noncommissioned officer, noticed that the baby appeared hungry. Without hesitation, she breastfed the infant.
The child was later turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office for proper processing and care.
Noelito A. Getigan, city director, said.
