The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology observed lava effusions which resulted in lava flows at Mayon volcano in Albay this Thursday.
The department reported that the lava flows travelled 3.8 kilometers down the Basud gully of the volcano, 2.6 and 1.3 kilometers near the Bonga and Mi-isi gullies, respectively.
Seismic activity at Mayon also led to two volcanic earthquakes with 340 instances of rockfalls around the perimeter of the volcano.
PHIVOLCS noted that there was a total of 2,504 tonnes of Sulfur Dioxide Flux emissions that elevated 600 meters above the crater before eventually drifting to the southwestern side of Mayon.
Alert Level 3 status was retained over the volcano as it continued to exhibit activity that warrants for the alert level to be placed based on the agency’s scale.
Entry into the six-kilometer permanent danger zone has been extended and is still strictly prohibited by authorities.
During the same 24-hour span when the observations were taken from Mayon, Mount Kanlaon in Negros Oriental and Taal Volcano in Batangas have also maintained their alert level status.
