The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has announced that it will hold a public consultation this coming Friday, 20 February, after nearly half of the bus and PUV terminals inspected nationwide were found to be non-compliant with safety regulations.

Through a post on its social media profile this Thursday, the LTFRB mentioned that it will host the meeting at its office on Kalayaan Avenue in Quezon City.

The agency’s Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II stressed that the meeting will focus on gaining better insight into what works in terms of offering the best experience for commuters and drivers alike.

“The public consultation meeting will primarily focus on terminal requirements and accreditations. We also expect extensive discussion on sharing of best practices that could be adopted and replicated,” he said.

Set to participate in the meeting are various stakeholders, operators, and managers that were invited by the LTFRB.

Of the 240 terminals inspected by the department in the country, 116 were flagged for having a mix of uncomfortable areas, lack of seating for seniors and persons with disabilities, and lack of proper safety measures.

“With the number of violators so far, we need to discuss this and come up with the best measures that are acceptable to everybody – but are based on the existing rules and regulations,” stated Mendoza.

The head of the department added that the meeting is a necessary step as random inspections on terminals are set to be a regular process.
