The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is strengthening its partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for the development of new training centers in Baguio and Clark.
BCDA Investment Promotions and Marketing vice president Kenneth Peralta said they are looking at building a multi-sports facility in Camp John Hay in Baguio City in their bid to help the PSC boost both the grassroots and elite sports.
Part of the P500-million facility that will serve as a world-class training ground for Filipino athletes is a sports center that will give athletes from various sports access to structured, science-based training. Soon, the facility will also serve as home of those who want to have high-altitude training like the national track and field, boxing and basketball teams.
“Our projects will be a multi-sports facility in Camp John Hay,” Peralta said at the sidelines of the Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.
“And then another 20 hectares here (New Clark City Athletics Stadium) for a tennis center because of Alex Eala, so we want more Alex Ealas around.”
No timeline has been revealed yet for the projects but Peralta shared that the construction will begin by the end of the year as BCDA president Joshua Bingcang and PSC chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio had already sealed the partnership last November.
