Emmy-winning actress Catherine O’Hara, known for her roles in Schitt’s Creek and Home Alone, died from a blood clot in her lungs, according to her death certificate released Monday.
The Canadian-born star, 71, was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital on January 30 after experiencing breathing difficulties at her Brentwood home.
She was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The certificate listed pulmonary embolism as the cause, with rectal cancer as a secondary factor.
Born in Toronto in 1954, O’Hara rose to fame with the comedy troupe Second City, alongside Eugene Levy, and later starred in films including Beetlejuice and Home Alone.
She married production designer Bo Welch and had two sons, Matthew and Luke.
O’Hara also appeared in Christopher Guest’s beloved mockumentaries and Apple TV’s The Studio, but modern audiences remember her most for Schitt’s Creek, a role that earned her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award.
