BDO Foundation, in partnership with the Quezon City government, provided financial literacy and entrepreneurship training to more than 200 nano-entrepreneurs, reinforcing efforts to strengthen grassroots businesses at the start of 2026.

The learning session, titled “Ayusin ang Pera, Palaguin ang Negosyo,” was organized by BDO Foundation together with the Quezon City Small Business Cooperatives Development and Promotions Office (QC-SBCDPO) and was held at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.

The activity focused on improving money management skills, business planning, and entrepreneurial mindset among small-scale business owners.

‘Pambansang Wealth Coach’ led the session

Chinkee Tan, known as the “Pambansang Wealth Coach,” led the session and shared practical insights drawn from his own experiences. Participants included sari-sari store owners, market vendors, and other self-employed individuals operating with limited capital.

QC-SBCDPO Department head III Mona Celine Marie V. Yap said Quezon City continues to work with partners such as BDO Foundation to provide free capacity-building programs for small business owners.

“Similar to financial literacy events like this, there are many trainings you can avail of. We offer free trainings through our partners,” she said.

Importance of financial education

BDO Foundation president Mario A. Deriquito emphasized the importance of financial education in helping entrepreneurs make informed decisions and prepare for the future.

“At BDO Foundation, we believe that with the right knowledge in finance and business, entrepreneurs are better prepared to make sound decisions and plan for the future,” he said.

As part of the program, participants were also briefed on the Quezon City Government’s Nano-Enterprise Registration Program, which encourages small business owners to formalize their operations.

Registered nano-enterprises may qualify for tax and registration fee exemptions under existing local ordinances.

Partnerships role

The event was supported by Quezon City District 1 Councilor Charm M. Ferrer, chairperson of the Committee on Micro, Small and Medium Business Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives, who underscored the role of partnerships in promoting entrepreneurship.

BDO Foundation said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to advancing financial inclusion by equipping small entrepreneurs with the knowledge and confidence needed to grow their businesses and plan sustainably for the future.
