Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the headquarters of the 42nd Infantry Battalion in Labo, Camarines Norte on 4 February 2025, turning over firearms and an improvised explosive device (IED).
The 42nd Infantry Battalion said the operation was conducted by the 9th Infantry Division in close coordination with the Philippine National Police, local government units, the National Amnesty Commission, and other security forces.
The surrender involved two NPA members who had previously played significant roles in planning and carrying out armed activities in the province.
Aside from surrendering, the former rebels also voluntarily turned over high-powered firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, an improvised explosive device, and other explosive components.
All surrendered items are now under the custody of the 42nd Infantry Battalion for proper disposition in accordance with existing laws.
Military and police officials attributed the successful surrender to intensified intelligence operations, sustained security efforts, and strong inter-agency and community cooperation.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to continue joint security operations while encouraging remaining insurgents to return to the fold of the law and avail themselves of government amnesty and reintegration programs for a peaceful and productive life.
