Makati City officials visited evacuation centers Monday to assist families displaced by separate fires in Barangays Sta. Cruz and Tejeros, while also releasing millions in aid to disaster-hit provinces.

Mayor Nancy Binay visited the Sta. Cruz Community Complex to assess conditions for 14 families — approximately 50 individuals — displaced by a fire that broke out Monday night.

Meanwhile, city data shows 355 families, or 1,067 individuals, remain in evacuation centers following a larger fire in Barangay Tejeros two days earlier.

The Makati Social Welfare Department is providing evacuees with food, medical services, and psychosocial support. Officials have established child- and women-friendly spaces, mobile toilets and isolation areas at the sites.

Dedicated pet areas were also set up in Carmona and La Paz for residents with animals.

Several city councilors, including Nemesio Yabut Jr., Arlene Ortega and Ferdie Eusebio, joined the visits to the displacement camps.

In a separate move, the city government released financial assistance to local government units outside of Metro Manila affected by recent calamities.

Under a city ordinance, Makati granted P2 million to the province of Surigao del Sur and P500,000 to the municipality of Monreal, Masbate, to support their respective recovery and rehabilitation efforts.
