President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. underwent medical observation on Wednesday night after experiencing discomfort, Malacañang Palace said Thursday afternoon.

“The President spent the night under medical observation as a precautionary measure after experiencing discomfort. His doctors advised rest and monitoring, and his condition remains stable,” Presidential Communications Officer (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said during a press briefing.

“The President continued to carry out his responsibilities while under medical observation and has returned to Malacañang,” she added.

Castro said the specific nature of the discomfort was not disclosed but confirmed that Marcos was scheduled to attend two private meetings later in the afternoon.

Mum on second impeachment

The Palace declined to comment on the second impeachment complaint filed against Marcos by the coalition BAYAN, which was endorsed by lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc.

“We cannot respond right now if we do not have details of what they are complaining about,” Castro said.

However, she addressed claims related to the first impeachment complaint allegedly filed by a supposed legal counsel of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, lawyer Andre de Jesus.

“And as far as we know, he (de Jesus) also denied that he had any relationship with the First Lady. And he himself admitted that he was a lawyer for the PDP Laban, [a] Duterte group,” Castro explained.

“They really have nothing to point out about the President's mistakes. That's all they always say about the signing of the GAA, about kickbacks, all of which have no evidence,” she added.

Justice moves

The Palace also said fugitive businessman Charlie Ang will be apprehended in connection with his alleged involvement in the kidnapping case linked to the so-called missing sabungeros.

Castro said the case has been closely monitored by the Palace since the term of Jesus Crispin Remulla as secretary of the Department of Justice.

“So if this is happening now, that an influential man is involved in this kind of heinous crime, the government will not let those who should be held accountable by justice go unpunished,” she said.
