Former Senator Bong Revilla Jr. and several co-accused in an alleged flood control scam are temporarily sharing a cell at the Quezon City Jail during a mandatory quarantine and assessment period, jail officials said Tuesday.
“Magkakasama po sila Ngayon dahil Sila ay newly committed PDL (Person Deprived With Liberty) natin,” Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) spokesperson Jsupt. Jayrex Bustinera said.
Bustinera said Revilla, Brice Hernandez, Arjay Domasig, Juanito Mendoza and Jaypee Mendoza will remain together for no more than seven days while undergoing standard assessment procedures.
Revilla surrendered to authorities Monday night after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for his arrest. He was brought to the anti-graft court Tuesday morning for processing and later turned over to its Third Division for the issuance of commitment orders and booking.
Meanwhile, former Department of Public Works and Highways engineers accused alongside Revilla were turned over by the Senate Office of the Sergeant at Arms to the National Bureau of Investigation late Monday.
The case stems from the alleged P92.8 million flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan, which prosecutors say was declared completed despite not being implemented.
“Itong pagkakakulong nila Ngayon sa BJMP Quezon City Jail ay base sa commitment order ng Sandiganbayan third division for malversation of public funds through falsification of public documents,” Bustinera said.
He added that cell assignments may change after the initial assessment period to ensure the detainees’ safety and security.
Bustinera stressed that the Quezon City Jail is not reserved for high-profile detainees and that Revilla and his co-accused will eventually be mixed with the general population of 3,612 detainees.
“I would like to highlight na ito ay hindi ipinagawa para sa kanila, may nakakulong ditong 3,612 na Quezon City Jail Detainees,” he said.
“Lahat Sila ay ihahalo sa general population,” he added.
Like other detainees, Revilla and the others will wear standard BJMP-issued yellow shirts and are barred from bringing unauthorized civilian clothing and electronic gadgets inside the facility.
