SULTAN KUDARAT — The provincial government ordered a province-wide suspension of classes and government work on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, following a magnitude 5.3 earthquake that struck parts of the province in the early hours of the morning.

Governor Datu Pax Ali S. Mangudadatu announced the temporary suspension of work in all government offices and classes at all levels—both public and private—to ensure public safety amid possible aftershocks and to allow authorities to conduct safety assessments.

According to Earthquake Information No. 1, the tremor occurred at around 3:00 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 06.39°N, 123.69°E, approximately 43 kilometers south, 65 degrees west of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat. The quake was felt in several areas of the province, prompting precautionary measures by local authorities.

In a public safety advisory, the provincial government urged residents to remain calm but alert, strictly follow official emergency and safety protocols, and avoid spreading unverified or false information that could cause unnecessary panic. The public was also reminded to prioritize personal and family safety while staying updated through official government channels.

“Kasama ninyo ang Pamahalaang Panlalawigan sa pagtiyak ng kaligtasan ng bawat Kudarateño,” the advisory stated, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to public welfare and disaster preparedness.

Authorities emphasized the importance of unity and vigilance as damage assessments and monitoring continue. An executive order formalizing the suspension is expected to be issued following the advisory.

The provincial government called on residents to remain informed and cooperative as Sultan Kudarat works collectively to ensure safety and resilience in the wake of the earthquake.
