ACEN’s 60-MW solar feeds Luzon grid

ACEN Corp., the listed energy platform of the Ayala Group, has completed and is now operating San Manuel Solar, a 60-megawatt (MW) solar facility in Pangasinan — expanding its renewable energy footprint in Northern Luzon.

The company said on Monday that the facility has 108,752 solar panels and generates about 94 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power roughly 55,000 households. It also avoids more than 58,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

San Manuel Solar uses ground-mounted photovoltaic panels and connects to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines through a 1.8-kilometer transmission line linked to the 69-kilovolt San Manuel Substation, delivering electricity directly to the grid.

Key pillar to ACEN’s Northern Luzon portfolio

“The project is a key pillar of ACEN’s growing portfolio in Northern Luzon, a region with strong potential to accelerate the shift to clean and sustainable energy,” ACEN said.

The project followed ACEN’s acquisition of Sinocalan Solar Power Corp. in December 2022, which enabled the development of the plant.

According to ACEN, the project aligns with the government’s target 35 percent renewable energy in the country’s power mix by 2030 as ACEN continues expanding clean energy investments in Northern Luzon and other regions.

Transition to 100% RE across portfolio completed

Last year, ACEN completed its transition to 100 percent renewable energy generation across its portfolio, which made it on track with its long-term strategy.

Now running entirely on renewable energy, the company is targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Its 2025 portfolio spans 4,634 MW of solar, 1,957 MW of wind, 115 MW of geothermal, and 304 MW of battery energy storage.
