Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong on Saturday dismissed as “vague, shapeless, and formless” reports of a supposed impeachment move against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. circulating among lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
Adiong said he sees no offense that could warrant the filing of an impeachment complaint against the Chief Executive.
“First of all, we don’t know who would file the complaint. That’s why this kind of talk is very vague, shapeless, and formless,” he said.
He added that there is no clear basis for the supposed move, stressing that there is nothing that could be directly attributed to the President that would amount to an impeachable offense.
“It’s hopeless, it’s shapeless, and we don’t even know what actually prompted these possible individuals. We don’t even know what they can attribute directly to the President that amounts to an impeachment complaint,” Adiong said.
Earlier, House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Edgar Erice said some lawmakers are expected to endorse an impeachment complaint against the President, describing it as a “collective action of a pro–Vice President Sara Duterte group.”
Erice said two legislators have already committed to endorse the complaint. He added that he was approached to become one of the endorsers but declined.
According to Erice, one of the possible grounds being floated is “betrayal of public trust” in connection with issues involving past national budgets.
