Fire incidents in Cordillera rise in 2025 — BFP

Fire incidents in the Cordillera region rose in 2025 compared with the previous year, according to data released by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Cordillera.

BFP Cordillera recorded 207 fire incidents in 2025, up from 201 cases reported in 2024. Residential fires remained the most common, accounting for 153 incidents, while non-residential fires totaled 54.

The BFP-Cordillera Regional Operations Division and the Chief Special Rescue Force identified open flames from cooking as the leading cause of fires, with 46 incidents linked to the use of LPG, gas stoves, and firewood.

Electrical ignition caused by arcing followed with 19 cases, while overheated home appliances accounted for 16 incidents. Other common causes included ignition from flying embers, which resulted in 14 cases, and unattended lighted candles, with 12 cases recorded.

Fire incidents in the region last year also resulted in casualties. BFP records showed that 24 civilians were injured, while three fatalities were confirmed due to fire-related incidents.
