Senator Christopher “Bong” Go provided aid to nearly 30 families displaced by a in Guadalupe, Makati City last Monday, using the event to call for the prioritization of permanent evacuation centers over flood control projects.
Go’s staff distributed financial assistance, food packs, water containers and other relief goods to 29 families at the Guadalupe Nuevo Sports Complex on 5 January.
In a video message to the victims, Go urged government officials to prioritize the implementation of the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he authored and co-sponsored.
The law, signed in December 2024, mandates the establishment of permanent, fully equipped evacuation centers in every city and municipality.
“I am appealing to my colleagues in government. Give priority to evacuation centers because this is the law, rather than wasting funds on flood control that some are using as a ‘cash cow,’” Go said.
The senator also highlighted the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act, a 10-year program designed to expand personnel and upgrade firefighting equipment nationwide.
Go said he is continuing to push for the Rental Housing Subsidy Program, a proposed measure in the 20th Congress that would provide temporary financial support for families displaced by disasters as they transition to permanent housing.
“I always say that we can buy new things and earn money if we work hard,” Go told the residents. “But the money you earn cannot buy a life.”
