The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday said it issued a show cause order (SCO) and a subpoena against the driver of a Ford Everest involved in a viral road rage incident with a public utility bus (PUB) in Cavite.

The LTO said that based on the circulating video, the SUV driver was seen damaging the bus’s wiper and windshield while shouting and cursing at the bus driver, an incident the agency said posed a risk to public safety.

“Naganap ang insidente sa isang pampublikong kalsada, na nagdulot ng panganib sa kaligtasan ng mga pasahero ng bus at mga kapwa motorista,” the LTO said.

The agency added that records show the Ford Everest involved was last registered on 7 June 2024.

LTO Chief Markus Lacanilao directed both the SUV driver and the registered owner of the vehicle to appear before the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division in East Avenue, Quezon City on 14 January 2026, at 10 a.m.

The driver was ordered to submit an explanation on why he should not face administrative charges for reckless driving and why his driver’s license should not be suspended and surrendered under the ground of being an “improper person to operate a motor vehicle.”

Lacanilao said the vehicle involved has been placed under alarm status, which prohibits any transaction involving the SUV while the investigation is ongoing.

“Habang patuloy ang imbestigasyon, pansamantalang ilalagay sa ilalim ng ‘ALARM’ ang Ford Everest na nangangahulugang ipagbabawal ang anumang uri ng transaksyon sa nasabing sasakyan. Pinatawan din ng paglabag sa ‘Compulsory Registration of Motor Vehicle’ ang may-ari ng nabanggit na SUV,” the LTO chief said.

The LTO also ordered a 90-day preventive suspension of the driver’s license pending the outcome of the hearing.

Meanwhile, the agency issued a subpoena to the bus driver involved, as well as to the owner of the public utility bus, ordering them to explain their side of the incident and to present the bus driver’s license and vehicle documents.

The LTO warned that failure of the SUV driver to appear and submit the required documents would be considered a voluntary waiver of the right to explain, and that the case would be decided based on evidence already on record.

The agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring road safety, assuring the public that irresponsible drivers will be held accountable for violations.
