Russia’s overnight strikes on Kyiv province killed two people, Ukrainian authorities said Monday, after a countrywide air alert was issued.

One person was killed in the capital, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration.

In the neighboring city of Fastiv, a man in his 70s also died, Mykola Kalashnyk said.

Russia has escalated its attacks on Ukraine as Kyiv and its allies seek to finalize a U.S.-brokered plan to end Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II.
