Vivant Energy has locked in a 15-year power supply agreement to deliver 11 megawatts of electricity to Siquijor.
The power arm of Cebu-based Vivant Corp. said in a Friday stock report that the agreement, signed on 30 December, followed a successful competitive selection process conducted by the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative (PROSIELCO).
Under the deal, Vivant Energy will supply power from its diesel power plant in Barangay Bogo, Maria, Siquijor, serving the municipalities of Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan, Enrique Villanueva and Siquijor.
For PROSIELCO, the partnership marks a critical turning point for the island’s power situation.
“We are excited about this partnership and we are hopeful that upon completion of the power plant, households and businesses will gain access to stable and dependable electricity,” PROSIELCO general manager Glenn Galvan said.
Reliable electricity is increasingly crucial for Siquijor, one of the country’s emerging tourism destinations.
The island led the Negros Island Region in gross domestic product growth in 2024 at 7.9 percent, with output rising to P13.78 billion from P12.77 billion in 2023.
“It has long been Vivant Energy’s thrust to prioritize areas that are largely underserved,” said Vivant Energy Vice President for Off-Grid Solutions Eric Omamalin.
“We believe progress starts where the grid ends. Beyond building a business, Vivant is helping build communities by delivering sustainable solutions that improve everyday living.”
