The dependable capacity of the power plant supplying electricity to Siquijor has been fully restored after S.I. Power Corp. (SIPCOR) completed key corrective measures, allowing the Villar-backed company to surpass the island’s daily peak demand and stabilize power supply across the province.
In a statement on Monday, SIPCOR said it deployed two rental generation sets and serviced one generation unit, boosting the plant’s total dependable capacity to 10,800 kilowatts—well above Siquijor’s peak demand.
“This enabled the full restoration of the 24-hour power supply in the entire province,” SIPCOR said.
SIPCOR added that it is intensifying its technical operations and strengthening daily evaluations and assessments to ensure the continued delivery of steady and reliable power across its service areas.
The company is the sole power generator on the island and supplies electricity to the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative, Inc., which manages distribution.
The tourism boom in Siquijor has been a key driver of the recent spike in power demand on the island.
Siquijor was recently named the top emerging destination for international travelers to the Philippines by Agoda, which cited its growing popularity among tourists from China, South Korea, the US, Australia, and Germany for its pristine beaches.
