A gunrunner was arrested after a buy-bust operation against loose firearms was held at Barangay Maestrang Kikay, Talavera, Nueva Ecija on New Year's Day.
According to the Talavera Municipal Police Station (MPS), the buy-bust operation resulted in the
arres of a 32-year-old male suspect, married, jobless, and a resident of Purok 7, Barangay Paco Roman, Rizal, Nueva Ecija.
The suspect was arrested after he was caught in the act of selling one unit homemade caliber .22 rifle without serial number to a PNP poseur-buyer in exchange for P10,000.00 marked money.
Subsequent search and seizure conducted incident to the lawful arrest resulted in the confiscation of the following items from the possession of the suspect: one piece homemade magazine for caliber .22 rifle; and four live rounds of ammunition for caliber .22
The arrested suspect was informed of his constitutional rights in a language known to him and was thereafter brought to Talavera MPS for proper documentation and disposition.
A criminal complaint for Violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (An Act Providing for a Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof) is being prepared by this station against the suspect for referral to the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor, Nueva Ecija for Inquest Proceedings.
