BAGUIO CITY — Local officials here reported zero firecracker-related injuries during the 2026 New Year transition, a milestone the city attributed to aggressive enforcement and community education campaigns.
The Baguio City Police Office and the City Health Office confirmed Thursday that no casualties or injuries were recorded from 23 December 2025 to 1 January 2026.
Police removed 13,528 illegal firecrackers and improvised noisemakers, known as “boga,” from circulation leading up to the holiday. To prevent indiscriminate firing, officers also conducted safety meetings with 136 registered firearm holders across the city.
