NHA caps year with debt relief, financial aid

The National Housing Authority (NHA) concluded 2025 by reporting significant progress in its debt condonation and disaster relief programs, alongside the turnover of thousands of permanent housing units across the country.
NHA general manager Joeben Tai said the agency prioritized financial relief and the acceleration of housing delivery to low-income families as part of the administration’s “Bagong Pilipinas” vision.
Tai cited that programs like the Condonation 7 initiative, payment moratoriums and emergency grants have helped ease the financial burdens of thousands of Filipinos.
From 1 May through the end of December, the NHA implemented its largest debt-clearing initiative in history. The Condonation 7 program waived 100 percent of accumulated penalties and delinquency interest, as well as 95 percent of unpaid amortization interest for qualified beneficiaries.
As of late December, the agency had condoned more than P623.7 million in interest charges, benefiting 14,330 approved accounts.
The agency also enacted several payment moratoriums in response to severe weather and seismic events. A nationwide one-month suspension of housing loan and lease payments was implemented in August following a series of tropical cyclones.
Additional localized moratoriums were enforced in October for Cebu and Masbate following a 6.7-magnitude earthquake, and in November for Davao Oriental and several other regions hit by tropical cyclones “Tino” and “Uwan.”
In the area of disaster recovery, the NHA distributed 310 million pesos through its Emergency Housing Assistance Program. The cash grants reached thousands of families whose homes were damaged or destroyed by typhoons, fires and earthquakes, providing them with the necessary funds to rebuild.
On the construction front, the NHA completed 9,229 housing units nationwide as of October. These homes serve families displaced by calamities and government infrastructure projects, as well as indigenous peoples and those affected by the Manila Bay cleanup.
A major milestone included the awarding of 1,099 units at St. Barts Southville Heights in San Pablo City, Laguna, for families affected by the PNR South Long Haul Project. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally led the ceremony earlier this year.
The NHA also reported that nearly 99 percent of all Yolanda Permanent Housing Program projects have been completed, with remaining units undergoing final construction or awaiting beneficiary occupancy.
