The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has launched a Leave Donation Program that allows employees, known as Unibankers, to voluntarily donate vacation leave credits to colleagues battling serious and life-threatening illnesses.
Rolled out this December 2025, the program creates a centralized leave donation pool managed by BPI’s Human Resources team. Through the initiative, employees diagnosed with any of the bank’s 14 covered dread diseases — including cancer, stroke, major cardiac conditions, and renal failure — may apply for donated leave credits to help cover extended absences for treatment, hospitalization, or recovery.
“At BPI, we stand with our people through every challenge, and with the selfless support of our donors/teammates, we turn empathy into hope — because true care is about lifting others when they need it most,” said Gina Eala, BPI chief human resource officer.
“The Leave Donation Program reflects the compassion and solidarity that define our culture. By sharing what we can, we give our colleagues the time and space they need to focus on healing, knowing they are supported by the BPI family,” she added.
Participation in the program is voluntary and open to eligible employees during an annual donation period held every December. Donated leave credits are pooled and distributed to qualified beneficiaries in the succeeding year, subject to established guidelines and medical validation.
BPI said the Leave Donation Program complements its existing employee benefits, which include medical insurance coverage, additional cancer care leave, and other wellness initiatives. The bank noted that the program aligns with its broader commitment to employee well-being and reflects its advocacy of fostering a supportive and compassionate workplace culture.
