Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday brought government contractor Sarah Discaya to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for her flight to Cebu, where she is set to face the Lapu-Lapu City Regional Trial Court in connection with the alleged P96.5-million ghost flood control project in Mindanao.
Discaya was escorted by NBI operatives from the bureau’s headquarters in Pasay City to NAIA under tight security. She was handcuffed and wore a hooded jacket, cap, and face mask, keeping her head bowed as she was led from the NBI compound to a vehicle and later into the airport.
Discaya is scheduled to be presented before Branch 27 of the Lapu-Lapu City Regional Trial Court, where her cases were recently transferred.
She faces charges of malversation of public funds and violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act in connection with a flood control project in Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, valued at P96.5 million.
Investigators said Discaya’s construction firm was reportedly fully paid for the project, but the flood control works were never implemented, prompting authorities to classify it as a ghost project.
