TACLOBAN CITY — A retired policeman was shot and killed while watching a cockfight inside a sports complex in Calbayog City late Saturday, police reported Sunday.
The victim, identified as alias Nonoy, was watching the event shortly after 8 p.m. when an unidentified male assailant approached him from behind, according to an initial investigation by the Calbayog City Police Station.
The attacker shot the victim three times, then fired two more shots before fleeing the scene. The suspect was described as wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt, black short pants, and a violet cap.
Personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office transported the victim to the Calbayog District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The forensic team recovered five spent .45-caliber cartridge cases at the crime scene.
They also found a .45-caliber pistol with an inserted magazine and two extra magazines containing ammunition in the victim’s possession and inside his sling bag.
The Calbayog City Police are conducting a follow-up investigation for the possible identification and arrest of the suspect.
