BANGKOK, Thailand — Olympian Lauren Hoffman is looking for redemption as she makes her debut in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games women’s 110-meter hurdles today at the Supachalasai Stadium here.

Finishing seventh and last in Paris in the 400m hurdles last year, the 26-year-old Hoffman hopes to make a splash in the biennial meet, where she is set to compete in two events.    

“My first SEA Games, I am excited to compete here. My goal is to win, and I am confident that I can,” said the North Carolina-based hurdler, who works as a human resources consultant.

“I am so happy to see also my other teammates here, my fellow Filipinos,” Hoffman added.

She will also see action in the 400m hurdles on Monday.

Hoffman trained in Durham, North Carolina track oval this year before flying to Manila on 6 December to acclimatize and train alongside the Philippine team.

The 61-man athletics squad arrived in Bangkok last Tuesday.

Hoffman is confident of her chances despite coming off a hernia surgery last year and issues on both her Achilles’ heels.

“I will just do my best despite the situation, but I am okay after my surgery,” Hoffman said.
