The House of Bustek and Bulalugaw (B&B) on Friday officially launched their new branch in Quezon City, opening their doors for comforting and warm local food delicacies.
Owner of B&B Alvin Bernales reminisce on the humble beginning of his restaurant, citing that it started in a small stall named “House of Bulalugaw” where some of his local are batch of PMA-ers that will handle some agencies of the government today such as MMDA Bong Nebrija and Philippine Navy Flag Officer Admiral Toto Ezpeleta.
“One day, they arrived at the store—PMA classmates, or 'mista' (mistah). Now, they each hold their own positions in the government,” Bernales said.
The new restaurant is now far from a small stall on a street, it is now a two floor store with air-conditioning but the home vibe where a group of friends will eat after class still remains. The restaurant offers various food in their menu, including B&B Tapa, their original Bulalugaw, gising-gising, buttermilk fried chicken that truly comforts the stomach of a hungry gang.
A wall full of notes compiled during their launch shows how bonding of friends, families or dates was shared with B&B together with the Filipino focused dishes that they serve on every plate.
Their Bulalo with bone marrow that melts inside your mouth aims to prove that B&B can hold the title that they are the house of “Bustek and Bulalugaw”. However the restaurant pays a homage on where they started, one of their wall shows a mural of House of Bulalugaw during its humble years with a verse Colossians 3:33 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human matters,”
Bernales cited that his story wasn’t as smooth as the bone marrow in their menu, but due to the help of the Lord, the story of B&B continued to be blessed.
“I just started reading and reading the bible repeatedly, until it gave me peace. After that, I never let go of the Lord, he is the main reason (for everything),” he said.
As part of their gratitude to their customers, Bernales announced that food items on their menu made a significant mark down, and aims to cater the masses even further.
“So, we can still lower the price after all. We are happy to announce that we rushed this new menu and dropped the price so that it can reach the masses,” Bernales said.
The new branch of House of B&B is located at 138, Katipunan Avenue, St. Ignatius, Quezon City.
