Converge escapes tough Terrafirma, posts 2nd win

TACLOBAN CITY — Just a week after classes resumed following a fatal mass shooting on campus, officials at San Jose…

College of Saint Benilde reigned supreme in the seniors’ division to capture its sixth general championship in Season…
San Beda’s super rookie Janti Miller watched helplessly Friday as Saint Benilde scored a 77-75 win Friday in Game 2 of their Season 101 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament best-of-three semifinals.
Miller was on the bench but he wasn’t fielded in owing to a knee injury he sustained when they beat the Blazers in the series opener.
Red Lions head coach Yuri Escueta said the 21-year-old winger suffered a contusion on his right knee which gave him an uncomfortable feeling.
He got injured when he collided with Jake Gaspay last Tuesday in a 91-72 San Beda victory at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“It’s hard to play when you have your key players on the bench,” said Escueta.
With Miller sidelined, Nigel Gonzales and Bryan Sajonia shone bright for the Red Lions with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
The two also got much needed help from Jomel Puno who scattered 14 points, after coming back from a lower back injury at the start of the season but it wasn’t enough.
Will Miller return to action on Sunday for the all-important Game 3?
Even Escueta is unsure if the flashy guard will be fit enough to play as the Fil-American dribbler is classified as day-to-day.
