A rescued juvenile Pinsker’s hawk-eagle was released back into the wild in Mt. Apo, Cotabato, on 1 December.

Residents who found the endangered Nisaetus pinskeri turned it over to the Mount Apo Natural Park Protected Area Management Office (MANP-PAMO).

The raptor was discovered perched weakly on a mango tree within the property of Datu Sanchy I. Lopez, who, together with Jomar O. Siyo, immediately sought assistance from park authorities.

After the turnover, MANP-PAMO personnel transported the bird to the Kidapawan City Veterinarian’s Office for assessment.

Veterinarians confirmed that the hawk-eagle was a juvenile in generally good condition but required supportive care. Following treatment and once it regained enough strength to fly, the team released the eagle back into its natural habitat later the same day.

The Pinsker’s hawk-eagle is listed as Endangered under the 2024 IUCN Red List and DAO 2019-09, underscoring the importance of timely wildlife reporting and intervention.

MANP-PAMO urged the public to contact the nearest DENR office when encountering wild animals to ensure proper handling, rehabilitation, and safe return to the wild—critical steps in protecting the country’s threatened species.
