CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The 5th Civil Relations Group, together with the 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division and the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division, conducted the Former Rebels Key Leaders’ Summit and Former Rebels’ Forum at Camp Romualdo C. Rubi in Barangay Bancasi, Butuan City, on Thursday.
Brig. Gen. Adoldo Espuelas Jr., commander of the 402nd Infantry Brigade, said the forum was held under the theme “Panaghiusa Alang sa Kalinaw” (Unity for Peace).
The summit featured inspirational testimonies from former rebels, lectures on peacebuilding, and discussions on the vital roles of former leaders in their communities.
“Participants also engaged in breakout sessions focused on livelihood opportunities, community service projects, cooperative resource generation, and strategies for sustainable development, providing practical guidance to help former rebels contribute positively to their communities,” Espuelas said.
He also provided a comprehensive discussion on principles of leadership, community integration, and the ongoing journey toward sustainable peace.
“The participation of former rebels in forums like this underscores the importance of collaboration, understanding, and shared responsibility in building lasting peace in our communities,” Espuelas added. He emphasized that their active involvement strengthens community-led peace initiatives and serves as a bridge between the military and local populations, promoting dialogue, accountability, and unity essential for long-term stability.
