Wasachi, an independent, esteemed matcha cafe from Roponggi, Tokyo recently opened in Fully Booked Power Plant Mall. The bookstore currently has a collaboration with notable and globally renowned name Kinokuniya.
An afternoon preview, which happened two days before its grand opening, featured Wasachi’s simple matcha-centered menu of a pure matcha drink, the famed Matcha Latte, Mango Matcha Latte (a refreshing Philippine-exclusive drink) and Matcha Affogato (for those with the a sweet tooth). Wasachi Philippines also included matcha-inspired desserts such as Matcha Mascarpone Tiramisu and Pistachio Matcha Éclair on its menu.
Wasachi has quietly become one of the best spots for matcha in the Japanese city. With the highest-grade matcha sourced from carefully selected farms across Japan, its matcha latte was remarked upon as the best in Tokyo by chef Daniel Calvert of Sézanne, a Michelin-starred restaurant, while Tatler Asia recognized its matcha cookie as the best of its kind. During one of his regular visits to Tokyo, Fully Booked’s managing director, Jaime Daez, recalls first encountering Wasachi at a friend’s recommendation.
“I wasn’t really an avid fan of matcha until I tasted Wasachi. It completely changed my perception, and I knew I had to bring it home,” Daez shares.
