The grand opening gala of Ballet Philippines’ 1001 Nights, marking the magnificent opening of its 57th season at The Theatre at Solaire, unfolded as a luminous convergence of cultural memory, cinematic scale, and high-fashion artistry. As the chic velvet curtains parted, the city’s creative visionaries, loyal patrons, and the social set were instantly enveloped in an undulating Arabian dreamscape — a meticulous world-building exercise where ancient myth and kinetic grace effortlessly collided. Choreographed with visceral precision and profound emotional intelligence by artistic director Mikhail Martynyuk, the production offered a definitive triumph in scale, translating a timeless dialogue of love, betrayal and forgiveness into an evocative physical lexicon that breathed new life into the timeless tales of Scheherazade.
Reflecting on the timely resonance of the performance, Ballet Philippines president Kathleen Lior-Liechtenstein poignantly shared, “It is a collection of magical, adventurous, and moral stories all demonstrating that kindness and wisdom can heal a wounded heart while violence and vengeance only destroy.
