University of Perpetual Help Dalta System aims to regain its winning touch when it battles struggling Lyceum of the Philippines University in Season 101 National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
After suffering three straight losses, the Altas are determined to close their preliminaries campaign with a resounding victory when they confront the lowly Pirates in the first game at 12 p.m. before the rivalry match between San Beda University and Letran College at 2:30 p.m.
Altas guard Mark Gojo Cruz cited their need to redeem themselves, saying that regaining their composure will boost their morale as they march into the quarterfinals armed with a twice-to-beat incentive against the survivor of the play-in between Jose Rizal University and Emilio Aguinaldo College.
“We need to overcome our previous losses with an important win so that we will have high morale when we enter the next stage, which is the quarterfinals,” said Gojo Cruz, who helped the Altas win eight of their first nine matches before bowing to San Sebastian College, Mapua University and Arellano University last week.
Still, the bright lights will be focused on the collision between San Beda and Letran — two teams heavily billed to figure in the best-of-three finals.
With an 8-4 win-loss record, the Red Lions clinched the top seed in Group B and will enter the quarterfinals with a twice-to-beat advantage. The Knights, however, sit in third place with a 7-5 slate and will face Arellano in the quarterfinals on 26 November regardless of what happens in the next playing days.
With their seat in the quarterfinals already cemented, both San Beda and Letran will be fighting for the glory of their respective schools.
