Proxy war in play?

Former Interior Secretary Raffy Alunan put forth an interesting theory about what has been transpiring lately: the political turmoil could actually be a proxy war between the two superpowers seeking to regain a firm hold on the country.
“I’ve been observing the geopolitical situation and the national security situation for years. And recently I think it was the Philippine Navy spokesman who also speaks for the armed forces who opined, perhaps it’s the viewpoint also of the armed forces, that there’s a foreign hand behind all this,” the former official during the Ramos administration related to Nosy Tarsee.
Alunan said the Navy spokesman was looking at China as fueling the conflict that has been transpiring.
“China is the only one that can benefit from this. It has been pushed out of power after being very well entrenched during the previous administration,” according to Alunan.
This time, the pendulum has swung in favor of the United States.
“The trouble is, most people talk of either being pro-China or being pro-US. Nobody’s talking about being pro-Philippines,” Alunan lamented.
