BSP highlights role of reliable data in policy making

BSP Monetary Board Member Rosalia V. De Leon delivers the keynote speech at the closing ceremonies of the 36th National Statistics Month on 28 October 2025.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reaffirmed the critical role of accurate and accessible data in shaping effective public policy, stressing that sound statistics are essential to understanding national needs and guiding long-term development.
This year’s celebration of the 36th National Statistics Month (NSM) concluded on 28 October 2025, at the BSP Head Office in Manila. Themed “Accelerating the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All,” this year’s celebration focused on how inclusive, accessible, and high-quality data supports evidence-based policymaking and helps track the country’s advancement toward the SDGs.
Throughout October, agencies across the Philippine Statistical System hosted panel discussions, scientific forums, workshops, and interactive exhibits, drawing participants from government, academe, the private sector, and media. These activities highlighted how well-utilized statistics can enhance policy design, sharpen interventions, and ultimately improve the lives of Filipinos.
“Data is the lens through which we understand our people’s needs, and the map that helps us reach a better future,” BSP Monetary Board Member Rosalia V. De Leon said during the closing ceremony. She added that reliable data allows [the] government to measure progress and “tells us what is working, what is not, and where we must act with greater urgency.”
During the closing ceremony, the Philippine Statistics Authority honored government institutions, local governments, private organizations, and youth groups for promoting the effective use of statistics nationwide.
National Statistics Month has been observed every October since the issuance of Presidential Proclamation No. 647 in 1990.
