University of Perpetual Help System Dalta is looking to lock the top spot in Group A when it faces defending champion Mapua University in Season 101 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball tournament Friday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
Game time is at 2:30 p.m. as the Altas hope to take down the Cardinals once again like they did last 8 October, 75-65.
With an 8-2 win-loss record and already secured of a twice-to-beat advantage, Perpetual is in a great position to improve its standing and choose the squads it will face.
Getting the top spot will have the Altas face the winner of the play-in phase of the tournament.
But before Mapua and Perpetual clash, College of Saint Benilde and Letran College square off at 12 p.m. as they also seek a playoff bonus.
The Blazers and the Knights have similar 6-4 records as the winner could have an edge in taking the second spot in Group B.
But all eyes will be on Perpetual, which will also look to bounce back after its 61-62 loss to San Sebastian College last week.
With the Altas’ supposed clash with Lyceum of the Philippines University postponed due to super typhoon “Uwan,” they will be entering the match well-rested.
But the Cardinals will also be coming in fresh and oozing with confidence after their 78-73 victory over the Pirates last week.
Yam Concepcion will be relied on by Mapua after firing 15 points against Lyceum while JC Recto had 14 points.
As for Perpetual, Patrick Sleat hopes to improve after scoring 11 points against San Sebastian.
